In this second installment of the series, we reunite with Miles Hardy, who shows noticeable growth since Book 1. He’s now in a relationship with Maisie, who has moved from Iowa to Chicago. Miles is relieved that Simon’s time machine worked—saving Simon’s life in the process.

Simon has been making final adjustments to the time machine. He and his physics teacher have relocated their lab to a secret location, even keeping it hidden from Miles. Simon is hatching a bold plan: he and Miles are traveling back to 1999 to intervene in their mother's past and change the course of her life.

Their goal? To rewrite the reality in which their mother struggles with mental health issues. But will their risky journey through time go as planned?
