This was my first time reading a work by Miles, and I was thoroughly impressed by her smooth and engaging writing style. The story follows Princess Salair and her bodyguard Sasha as they seek out Sir Charles—better known as Chuck—a loyal ally of the King, Salair’s father. After the mysterious disappearance of her parents from the kingdom, Sasha’s only thought was to bring the Princess to Chuck for help. In their parents' absence, Marsha felt it was her duty to look after her brothers and sisters. She had a natural maternal instinct to protect those around her. However, while caring for Mateus, Marsha encountered many challenges and realized she couldn't take everything to heart. By overly dedicating herself to helping and listening to others, Marsha often neglected her own well-being. Michele reminds us that we are only responsible for our own mental health, not anyone else's. It's important to prioritize personal time to relax and recharge. Mateus also struggled with understanding boundaries. Though he was deeply caring and looked out for everyone else, he often forgot about his own needs.
